Facebook is a huge part of the online living. It has more than 400 million active users, and 50% of them log on to Facebook at any given day. Speaking of online businesses – there are 700 000 FaceBook pages for local businesses. And this number keeps growing.
So why would anyone want to represent his business on FaceBook? Well probably because FaceBook is almost as popular as Google now, and for one week it has even outranked Google in US. So if you spend some money on Google Adwords, why don’t you still have a FaceBook page for your business?
As FlashMint has recently created it’s own FaceBook page – we want to share some experience with you.
To create a FaceBook fan page you firstly need to have an account on Facebook. If you do – go to http://www.facebook.com/pages/ and click the “+ Create Page” button.
Now here is where most of the people have a hard time choice and refer to Google for help. Group or Page? Official or Community? What does FaceBook say about it?
Groups are meant to foster group discussion around a particular topic area…Groups can be created by any user and about any topic, as a space for users to share their opinions and interest in that subject. Groups can be kept closed or secret, whereas Pages are intended to help an entity communicate publicly.
Pages are for organizations, businesses, celebrities, and bands to broadcast great information to fans in an official, public manner. Like profiles, they can be enhanced with applications that help the entity communicate with and engage their fans, and capture new audiences virally through their fans’ recommendations to their friends.
You can create and manage a Facebook Page for your organization from your personal account. You can create a Page here. Please note that only the official representative of an organization, business, celebrity, or band is permitted to create a Page.
Generate support for your favorite cause or topic by creating a Community Page. If it becomes very popular (attracting thousands of fans), it will be adopted and maintained by the Facebook community.
Now it’s pretty much obvious that you need an Official Page if you want to promote your business on FaceBook.
ATTENTION!: Be careful with your “Page name”. It’s the main signal for a FaceBook search, so in addition to your company name it’s suggested to add a few keywords about what you do. Think carefully, as you will not be able to change that in future.
Hit the “Create Official Page” button and you’ll be redirected to a new home for your business.
Once the page is created fill it with content and promote to your friends with “Suggest to Friends” and “Share” buttons.
That’s enough for the first tip, come back for some more great tips on FaceBook page next time.
